When to follow up after sending a proposal

Most freelancers and consultants follow up too late. By the time you send the "just checking in" email a week later, the prospect has moved on or signed with someone else.

The window that matters is the first 24-48 hours after they open your proposal. That's when your document is fresh, your name is top of mind, and a quick, specific message gets a reply.

The second window is a repeat visit. If a prospect re-opens your proposal a few days later, they're discussing it internally. Follow up that day with something specific to what they read.
